About the Institution

Bankura Zilla School boasts a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1840. Founded by Dr. G. N. Cheek and Mr. Francis Goldsberry, it began in the "Sepoy Barrack Hospital" building. In 1851, Maharaja Mahatabchand Bahadur of Burdwan provided financial assistance for its extension. It is celebrated for its deep cultural roots and academic excellence in West Bengal.

  • Khudiram Das - Distinguished scholar and literary critic of Rabindra literature.
  • Ranesh Das Gupta - Notable writer, journalist, politician, and founder of Udichi Shilpigoshthi.
  • Radhika Prasad Goswamy - Celebrated vocalist of the Bishnupur Gharana.
  • Mohammad Shamsuzzoha - Rajshahi University martyr during the 1969 uprising.
