Noakhali
Noakhali Zilla School was established in 1850 privately by Jones, an officer from Ireland, in the old town of Noakhali district. The school's premises were washed away by a river in 1920, forcing relocations. It eventually moved to its present location in Maijdee entirely by 1953. The school has overcome destructions by cyclones in 1958 and 1970 and stands today as a central pillar of education in Noakhali.
